Mercy Fall
"For The Taken " CD Review
Release Date: May 9, 2006
Released By: Atlantic Records

June 1, 2006 - Don't let this album fool you for falling into one category, because it's got something for everyone.

This Arizona band could have named their album Metamorphosis as they deliver most of their heavier songs first like Insurmountable and Hangman and then surprisingly around track number 6, Here I am, the album makes a complete change. For the better? Well, do you like heavier riffs, some screaming and shredding guitar solos or do you enjoy more the melodic, emotional lyrics and clever harmonies that the latter part of the album contains?

Mercy Fall

The lead singer (Nate Stone) resembles the voice of
LIVE singer Ed Kowalcyzk, in the way it's trusting and
not so thick and heavy metal sounding. One song that stands out for me is track number 5, 'I Got Life,' because the guitarist tears it up in the solo and the chorus is catchy, angry and from the heart. Number 8, 'Hush,' has a sexy entrancing bass groove and his lyrics are riveting.

The ninth track is my favorite. It's titled 'In Doubt' and it is very emotional in lyrical content and the music is tactfully there allowing the emotion to seep through and fill you up. Nate's voice stays with you and even when the songs get heavier, the meaning behind the words are not lost. The last track on the album is in its rightful position titled, 'No More Silence,' because the album closes with a bang including heavier riffs, but still the same trusting voice and meaningful lyrics, but the slower songs are definitively over and this band purely means rock and roll.

I would say "For The Taken," is one of the better albums I have heard this year and would rate it as a must buy record.
